Notorious drug peddler detained under PIT NDPS Act

UDHAMPUR, Mar 3: A notorious drug peddler has been detained under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act.
The accused, namely Sujad Ahmed alias Kaka, son of Abdul Rashid of Jakhani, Udhampur, is a habitual offender involved in narcotics-related activities in the district. His continued involvement in the illicit drug trade posed a serious threat to public health and safety, particularly to the youth, Police said.
The PIT NDPS warrant, issued by the competent authority, was executed today by Udhampur Police and the said detenue has been lodged in District Jail Bhaderwah.
Meanwhile, Police arrested an inter-district drug peddler at Chenani and recovered a small quantity of heroin like substance from his possession.
Police team of Police Station Chenani while performing routine naka checking on NHW, Chenani near Shahjahan Sweets Shop, intercepted the accused person, identified as Uzair Khursheed, son of Khursheed Ahmed Beigh of Rambagh, Balla P/O Natipora, Srinagar. During his personal search, 2.84 grams of heroin was recovered from his possession.
Accordingly, the accused was arrested on the spot and FIR No. 35/2026 U/S 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act was registered in this connection at Police Station Chenani. Further investigation of the case is underway.
