SOPORE, June 17: Jammu and Kashmir Police in Sopore have booked a notorious drug peddler under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (PIT NDPS).
A police official said Ajaz Ahmad Najar of Mumkakh Batpora, Sopore, was allegedly booked under PIT NDPS Act for his alleged involvement in multiple narcotics cases.
“Despite facing legal action earlier, he continued operating a drug peddling network discreetly,” he said.
As such, after completing all legal formalities and receiving approval from the competent authority, the accused was booked under PIT NDPS Act and shifted to Kathua Jail.
Over the past two months, Jammu and Kashmir Police in Sopore have registered several FIRs under the NDPS Act, resulting in multiple arrests and drug seizures.
“So far, 6 repeat offenders have been booked under PIT NDPS, while legal action is underway against 15 more identified peddlers in Sopore,” the police official said.
Additionally, he said, ten individuals have been booked under the Public Safety Act (PSA) for activities threatening public order and regional security.
According to him, these steps underline their firm resolve against drug trafficking and other unlawful activities.
