REASI, May 30: In the ongoing drive ‘Ek Yudh Nashe Ke Virudh’ against drug abusers, District Police Reasi is tightening noose around criminals and in this connection, a notorious drug peddler was arrested today.
Cannabis like substance, weighing 1.25 kg was recovered from his custody. Team of Police Station Mahore laid a surprise naka at Shajroo Kalwa Mahore and intercepted the accused, identified as Perwaiz Ahmed, son of Abdul Gani of Gool.
In this regard, case FIR number 26/2021, under sections 8/20 NDPS Act has been registered in Police Station Mahore and further investigation is going on.
The arrested accused is a notorious drug peddler of the area, who is involved in case FIR No 11/2011 U/S 457/380/RPC of PS Gool and FIR No 02/2014 US 8/20 NDPS Act of Railway Police Station Anantnag Srinagar. His name also figures in the investigation of other case FIRs lodged under NDPS Act of Police Station Mahore.
For further uninterrupted surveillance of the accused against unlawful criminal activities, history sheet of the accused Perwaiz Ahmed will be opened and shall remain registered in Register Number 10 of the Police Station Mahore, said a Police spokesperson.
Meanwhile, in another action, team of Police Station Arnas developed an information that one Baldev Singh, son of Sunder Singh of Dhanour Morha Barmasta, tehsil Arnas had illegally cultivated poppy crop in his fields.
In this regards FIR number 51/2021, U/S 8/18/29 NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Arnas and team led by SHO Arnas along with Naib Tehsildar (Executive Magistrate) Dhanour, reached on the Spot, where it was found that poppy crop spread over good chunk of land in terrace fields of a hill.
After seeking magisterial orders on the spot and following necessary legal procedures, nearly mature banned cultivation was destroyed in the presence of the Executive Magistrate.
In a separate raid, team of Police Station Reasi raided the house of a bootlegger, identified as Makhan Singh alias Guddu, son of Kamla of Salal Reasi and recovered 9 litres of illicit liquor (hooch) from his possession. Police also recovered four litres of lahan, which was destroyed on the spot.
Police arrested the bootlegger and registered case FIR number 121/2021 U/S 48(a) Excise Act in Police Station Reasi.
Pertinent to mention that ‘Ek Yudh Nashe Ke Virudh’ is a special drive started by District Police Reasi under the command of SSP Reasi Shailender Singh. Under this drive, 84 offenders have been arrested in 66 case FIRs registered under NDPS Act and Excise Act since last six weeks.
