KISHTWAR, Dec 9: District Police Kishtwar has arrested a notorious burglar involved in a vehicle theft case and recovered a stolen Maruti car, alongside seizing heroin-like substance from his possession.
Acting on a complaint filed by Maqbool Hussain, son of Mohd Anwar of Mainpura Mughalmaidan, at present Sangrambhata, reporting the theft of his Maruti car (JK17-0544) from near a petrol pump at Sangrambhata, Police Station Kishtwar registered an FIR Number 244/2025 under Section 303(2) BNS and launched an investigation.
A police team led by SHO Kishtwar Inspector Firdous Ahmed, assisted by SI Lal Hussain and supervised by Additional SP Pardeep Singh Goria and Deputy SP Headquarters Dr Ishan Gupta, succeeded in apprehending the accused, Reyaz Ahmed, son of Mohd Iqbal, resident of Indera Nagar, Kishtwar. Upon his disclosure, the stolen vehicle was recovered from Batote.
During his personal search, police also recovered 2 grams of heroin-like substance, following which a separate case—FIR Number 246/2025 under Sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act—was registered.
Police said investigations in both cases are underway to identify any accomplices and trace the source of the narcotics.
