KISHTWAR, Feb 17: District Magistrate (DM) Kishtwar, Pankaj Kumar Sharma here today took stringent preventive action against a habitual offender.
In exercise of powers vested under the Jammu and Kashmir Public Safety Act (PSA), 1978, Sharma issued a detention order for notorious criminal and drug peddler, Riyaz Ahmed, son of Mohd Iqbal Sheikh, resident of Indra Nagar, Tehsil and District Kishtwar.
Acting on a detailed dossier prepared by the SSP, Kishtwar, the District Magistrate, Kishtwar, scrupulously examined the record and found activities of Riyaz Ahmed highly prejudicial to the maintenance of public order.
Riyaz was a chronic recidivist deeply entrenched in a diverse spectrum of nefarious activities, ranging from burglary, vehicle theft and violent assault to the illicit trafficking of narcotic substances.
It was observed by the DM that despite being booked in multiple FIRs for serious offenses including house trespass, assault on women and children and possession of Heroin, the ordinary law of the land had failed to desist the individual from criminal path.
Consequently, to prevent him from acting in any manner prejudicial to the maintenance of public order, the District Magistrate, Kishtwar, deemed it necessary to detain the notorious criminal under stringent provisions of PSA.
He was taken into custody and lodged in District Jail Bhaderwah.
