Notorious bovine smuggler booked under PSA

UDHAMPUR, May 17: Police rescued 27 bovines in Chenani area today while a notorious bovine smuggler of Ramnagar has been detained under Public Safety Act.
Police have booked and detained Totu, son of Saraj Din of Katwalt, Ramnagar, a habitual bovine smuggler, under the J&K Public Safety Act (PSA).
The detention order was issued by the District Magistrate Udhampur.
Totu has been involved in several bovine smuggling cases registered in the district. Despite multiple FIRs and previous arrests, he continued his illegal activities, posing a serious threat to public peace. Consequently, he has been booked under the PSA and lodged in jail, Police said.
Meanwhile, Police rescued 27 bovines and seized two vehicles besides arresting four smugglers at Chenani.
A Truck JK01AQ-5888 was intercepted at Basht, Chenani during night patrolling and 24 bovines were rescued. Driver of the truck, namely Zakir Rashid of Banihal was also arrested.
A Mahindra JK19A-2917 was intercepted at Anthal Chowk, Chenani in which three bovines were laden for smuggling purpose. Driver Mubashir Hussain of Ramban and his two associates were arrested on the spot.
In both the case, FIRs under relevant sections of law have been registered at Police Station Chenani.
