Northern Command celebrates Van Mahotsava

UDHAMPUR, Aug 5: Indian Army celebrated two week Van Mahotsava involving multifarious activities here in the Northern Command’s Udhampur Military Station.
The celebrations included various events like ‘Run for Fun’ in all units, debates, drawing competitions, lectures and skit by children on ecological issues in various schools and married colonies of the station.
The twelve day long Van Mahotsava festival, which started on July 22 concluded here at Bikram Park with a commemorative tree plantation by Lt Gen KT Parnaik, GOC-in-C, Northern Command.
A host of military and civil dignitaries, cops, school children and local youths participated enthusiastically in the 2.4 km long ‘Run for Fun’ event.
Speaking on the occasion, Lt Gen Parnaik said that Northern Command has always endeavoured to protect the greenery and it has undertaken multifarious activities to convert the existing barren land into green cover.
Lt Gen Balbir Pama, Chief of Staff, informed the gathering that Northern Command has taken various initiatives on afforestation, water harvesting, nature conservation, area cleanliness, and spreading awareness on environmental activities at Udhampur Station. This season, Udhampur Military Station has planned to plant 25000 trees of various types with assistance from Social Forestry and Horticulture Department of the State, he added.
