Non-inclusion of Sikh Regiment in R-Day Parade: Community seeks explanation

JAMMU, Feb 4: The various Sikh organizations of J&K and  five elected members of DGPC Jammu,  under the banner of J&K Sikh United Front, have  expressed their anguish over non inclusion of Sikh Regiment of Army in the Republic Day Parade on 26th January 2016 at Delhi and demanded an explanation in this regard.
While addressing the media,  S  Avtar Singh Khalsa,  member DGPC  Jammu and general secretary of Sikh United Front,  said that it was for the  first time in the history of India that the Sikh Regiment was kept out of the 26th Jan Parade. He said that all the world knows about the sacrifices of Sikh community and their Gurus for the sake of the Hindu religion and country.  “The Sikh community in India and abroad has felt shocked over ignorance of a Sikh Regiment that has fought many battles on the borders and sacrificed lives,” he said and also reminded about role played by  Sikh Regiment in fight against militants at several times.
Avtar Singh Khalsa alleged that  the Indian Government kept  Sikh Regiment out of the Parade under the pressure of French President who was present at Republic Day Parade. “The Sikh community in India feels isolated in the Modi Government and we appeal to the Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal of Sheromani Akali Dal who is a part of the NDA Govt and Harsimrat Kour Badal,  who is the Cabinet Minister in the Union Cabinet, to raise the issue before President of India Parnab Mukherjee for seeking  an explanation in this regard from Prime Minister of India,” he demanded.
Representatives of Bhai Kanaya Nishkam Sewa Society, AISSF, Sikh Naujawan Sabha, Sikh Welfare Society and  Sikh United Front were present in the press conference.  They included Ramnik Singh,  Raja Singh,  Darbinder Singh, Fateh Singh members of DGPC, Jammu and   Lachman Singh Gill, Mohinder Singh, Kulwant Singh, Gajan Singh, Harpal Singh ‘Prince’,  Surjit Singh Kuku,  Kultar Singh, Harpreet Chotu,  Tejpal Singh and  Satwant Singh ‘Honney’.
