RAJOURI, Mar 9: Non-gazetted employees of Government Medical College (GMC), Rajouri staged a peaceful protest within the college premises, demanding the immediate formulation of Service Recruitment Rules and finalization of pay scales.
The protesting employees expressed strong resentment over the prolonged delay, stating that the demand has remained pending for the last six years. They highlighted that 3,375 posts for newly established Government Medical Colleges were created through a Cabinet decision, and an executive order for one-time recruitment was subsequently issued by the Health and Medical Education Department to the Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB).
However, employees who were appointed through JKSSB at the time of the establishment of these new Medical colleges voiced serious concern over the non-finalization of recruitment rules, which has adversely affected their career progression.
The employees stated that several committees were constituted by the Health and Medical Education Department to finalize the Service Recruitment Rules and determine the actual pay scales. Despite this, no concrete action has been taken so far. They further added that multiple representations have been submitted to the concerned department over the years, but the issue still remains unresolved.
The protesters emphasized that the absence of recruitment rules has resulted in career stagnation, as promotions and other service benefits cannot be processed without the proper regulatory framework.
Meanwhile, Principal GMC Rajouri, Dr AS Bhatia, assured the employees that the matter has already been taken up with the government and the case is under consideration. He informed the protesters that the issue would be addressed following the due administrative procedure.
Dr Bhatia asked the employees to resume their duties in the larger interest of patient care, emphasizing that healthcare services should not suffer due to the ongoing issue. After receiving the assurance from the Principal, the employees called off their protest and resumed work.
