BHADERWAH, May 12: As the mercury has started rising in plains, hundreds of nomadic tribal Bakerwal families have started reaching, with their cattle, at high altitude Himalayan meadows in the Chenab region.
Despite facing tough time during traditional seasonal migration and facing losses of livestock and belongings due to harsh weather and attacks of wild animals while crossing snow peaked mountains, these tribal people say that at meadows remains the best part of their life.
According to official figures, every year thousands of nomadic families of Bakerwal and Gujjar communities, along with their herds of cattle, come to the high-altitude meadows in Chenab valley especially in the twin districts of Doda and Kishtwar, for summer months.
These nomadic families began their journey to the green pastures for grazing their cattle during summers and they return to warmer places of Jammu in October ahead of winters.
