Mumtaz made these comments in response to reports of alleged construction of a shopping complex along the under-construction four-lane highway from Narbal to Baramulla. This road project is a crucial component of the ambitious Srinagar-Baramulla-Uri highway initiative, which aims to improve traffic flow in the area. Of particular concern is the Putkha-Delina stretch, which has seen the unauthorized erection of multiple commercial complexes by landowners.
Addressing these concerns, Mumtaz assured the public that the construction on the national highway is under close surveillance. He said Notifications have already been issued to the relevant Tehsildars, and stringent action will be taken against those found violating construction guidelines.
The Assistant Commissioner stressed that both the Roads and Buildings Department and the Border Roads Organization (BRO) are continuously monitoring the situation to protect the buffer zones along the highways. He emphasized the importance of this road as a vital link connecting three districts and reiterated that strict actions would be taken against anyone found disregarding the established guidelines.
Mumtaz urged the public to report any violations they observe on the highway and assured them that no illegal construction would be tolerated, “appropriate actions would be swiftly taken to address such violations”.
