SRINAGAR : There was no respite from the cold in the region where Leh freezed with minus 12.6 degree minimum temperature, coldest of the season so far.
The summer capital, Srinagar, remained coldest than Gulmarg as the minimum temperature was minus 2.6 degree.
Since the weather will remain dry during the next 24 hours, the night temperature there will be no immediate relief in minimum temperature, a Met department spokesman said here today.
He said due to open sky, the minimum temperature continued below normal while the day temperature will remain above normal though chilly wave will continue during the morning and evening hours.
Met spokesman said people in Leh witnessed coldest night of the season so far after the minimum temperature dropped further an settled at minus 12.6 degree, more than a degree less than yesterday. However, the earlier lowest was minus 12 degree recorded on November 16.
There was slight improvement in the minimum temperature at Kargil though it was still below freezing point.
Met spokesman said the night temperature was minus 7 degree against yesterdays minus 7.8 degree. The lowest so far has been recorded on November 21 when the minimum temperature dipped to minus 11.4 degree.
There was also no respite from the cold in the summer capital, Srinagar, where the minimum temperature was minus 2.6 degree, 1.6 degree below normal, colder than famous ski resort of Gulmarg, where the night temperature was 0.8 degree, five notches above normal.
At Pahalgam, the health resort in south Kashmir, recorded minus 3.8 degree.
The minimum temperature remained below normal at Qazigund (minus 2.8 degree) and Kupwara minus 2.4 degree. (AGENCIES)_
