Prashant Bushans’s repeated statements about Kashmir are highly condemnable. One hopes the eminent lawyer is at least aware about the geographical location of the area and that the Valley is just one of the three regions of the entire state of Jammu and Kashmir. The two other regions – Jammu and Ladakh-having more combined area and population strongly favour retention of AFSPA and are genuinely against any kind of so-called ‘referendum’ in the State.
The recent success of AAP has generated a new hope among an ordinary Indian to rid the country of many of its ills – particularly corruption. But, irresponsible statements on issues like that of Kashmir speak volumes about AAP’s lack of crucial understanding and sensitivity about vital national security concerns and about the country’s well stated position on J&K.
AAP and its leaders must know that nearly half a million of minority Kashmiri Pandits continue to live a life of exiled refugees within their own country since 1989/’90 because of rise of Islamic terrorism in the valley-aided and abetted by Pakistan with a specific objective. And, one must be thankfully conscious of the valiant efforts of our security forces and for their supreme sacrifices being made to protect and uphold the sovereignty and integrity of our country.
