SRINAGAR, June 23: Minister for Social Welfare, Sajjad Gani Lone today said that Government constituted a committee in March, 2013 headed by Dr. Peerzada Mohammad Amin to conduct the detailed study of Socio- Economic status and common ethnic characteristics of Pahari Speaking people in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Minister was replying to a question raised by Vibodh Gupta.
The Minister said that the Committee has submitted its report which is being placed before the State Cabinet for perusal and consideration.
The Minister said that Centre for Research on Gojjri and Pahari Languages and Culture (RG&PLC) has been sanctioned, but at present it is not functioning and efforts are on to make it functional. He said all the 7 posts created under teaching and non teaching cadre have been advertised. The Minister said there is no proposal under the consideration of the Government for establishment of Pahari House in Jammu on the pattern of Leh and Kargil House.
The Minister said that the Government has constituted State Advisory Board for Pahari Speaking people in 1989 with an aim to raise their educational standards and preserving and promotion of Pahari culture in the State. He said that 18 books have been published in Pahari Language for its development. He said seminars are also being conducted for promotion of Pahari culture.
