No compensation paid to Valley orchardists

Srinagar, May 27: Government today said that it has paid no compensation to the orchardists/ fruit growers of Valley in wake of September 2014 floods, saying the Horticulture Department suffered losses worth Rs 1568 crore during the deluge.
In a written reply to a question of MLA M Y Tarigami’s in Lower House, Minister Incharge Horticulture Department, said due to incessant rains and floods of 2014 in the State, an estimated loss of Rs1568 crore was suffered by the department.
“Ex-gratia relief to the extent of 50% (Rs 784 crore) has been projected to the Government of India by the State Government,” he added.
