JAMMU, Nov 20: National Mazdoor Conference (NMC) today demanded exemption of Dearness Allowance (DA) from the ambit of income tax as this is linked with price index.
“Price escalation is directly linked with the DA of the salaried class and pensioners but it was strange that the income tax is also imposed on the increase of the salaries because of DA”, said NMC president Subhash Shastri while addressing a meeting of workers here.
Pleading the cause of central as well as states government employees and pensioners, the NMC chief appealed the Union Finance Minister (FM) to revoke the decision of the Central Government regarding freezing of release of DA installments till June 2021.
Shastri pointed out the salaried class of the country are at the fore front of battle against COVID-19 and risking their life. In such a situation, he said that the freezing of DA will severely impact life and living of salaried class and pensioners.
Stating that DA is the only source with them to cater the dearness needs, the NMC president demanded an early release of two installments of 4 and 5 % DA due from January last and July 1 to both central/states and UT employees and pensioners so that employees and pensioners would get sigh of relief from price index.
Pleading the cause of several thousands daily rated workers working in the various departments of Jammu & Kashmir Government, Shastri also urged the FM to direct the Lt Governor administration to ensure timely disbursement of long pending wages of daily rated workers for years together.
