Nitish Kumar to take oath for record 10th time, PM Modi likely to attend; security tightened at Gandhi Maidan

PATNA, Nov 19 : Security arrangements have been tightened for the grand swearing-in ceremony of Nitish Kumar as Chief Minister, who will take oath for a record 10th time, at Gandhi Maidan in Patna on Thursday.
Sources at the state headquarters said here today that security personnel were keeping a hawk’s eyes on every movement in and around the venue, with the event likely to be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with some senior union Ministers.
Chief Ministers of BJP-ruled states, Uttar Pradesh’s Yogi Adityanath, Delhi’s Rekha Gupta and Madhya Pradesh’s Mohan Yadav are expected to be present. BJP national president J.P. Nadda, senior party leaders would also attend the programme.
According to Police Headquarters, entry of the general public into Gandhi Maidan has been banned and vehicle movement around the area has been restricted.
Heavy security has been deployed and strict vigil is being maintained in and around the venue.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar himself visited Gandhi Maidan to review the preparations and security arrangements.
Joint teams of the district administration, police, municipal corporation and other agencies inspected the ground, which has been divided into different zones for smooth crowd management and security.
More than 3,000 police personnel have been deployed for the ceremony. Drone cameras and a large number of CCTV cameras are being used for 24 hour surveillance.
A special team of Patna Police has been formed, and an additional team has been placed in the police control room. Security personnel are keeping a close watch on every visitor.
Keeping in mind the possibility of a large crowd, special medical teams have been arranged. Doctors, medicines and ambulances have been arranged at all major gates of Gandhi Maidan and major hospitals in Patna have been put on alert.
The district administration said that traffic restrictions will be in place from 8 AM to 3 PM in view of the ceremony on Thursday.
Several major roads around Gandhi Maidan will remain closed to normal vehicles. Only the fire brigade and ambulances will be allowed.
Gandhi Maidan has been declared a fully secured area.
