NIT row

I
Sir,
This has reference to S. P. Sharma’s write-up, “BJP shall have to introspect.” (DE 9-4-2016) I fully agree with writer’s  observation that ‘in the past while in opposition BJP would come out in the streets beating their chests to protest against any such incident (as at NIT Srinagar) but has turned mute spectator after coming to power’. This is what hurts those who voted for this party in the name of Mr Modi and slogan of development and gave them a chance to rule the country and enjoy power in the state in alliance with a party with which it has nothing in common except desire for power and majority in the number of seats won from the respective regions. This may be called double standards, hypocrisy or compulsion of alliance.
Deputy CM first called this ‘Brutal thrashing’ as ‘mild lathi charge’ on the basis of reports received by him but failed to visit the campus on security reasons or whatever may be his compulsions but that would have definitely  boosted the morale of students who dared to raise the slogans of Bharat Mata Ki Jai little knowing the consequences of such patriotic outbursts provoking the pro-Pak elements on the campus. Pro-Pak elements in Kashmir keep opposing India and showing support for Pakistan in one or the other form or on one pretext or the other; be it sports or killing of militants and this has deeply infiltrated the psyche of many Kashmiris and all this is fanned by those leaders who have cleverly combined religion with politics questioning even the accession of Kashmir which we claim to be an integral part of India.
Non-Kashmiri students who opted for NIT Srinagar to pursue their engineering courses for bright careers may not have imagined that they will be thrashed for raising patriotic slogans on the campus in reaction to the intolerable, anti-national behaviour of other hostel inmates and their Government will fail miserably to protect their lives and right to express their patriotic feelings by chanting this slogan which the BJP propagates all over India and abroad. This may also have given them a taste of much talked about hospitality of paradise on earth.
It has been rightly said, ‘Kuch to mazboorian rahi hongi, yun koi bewafa nahin hota.’ There may have been some compulsions, one doesn’t betray for nothing.’
Yours etc……
