Nisha Biswal on 3-day visit to India, to ramp up trade, strategic ties

NEW DELHI : United States Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Nisha Desai Biswal starts her three-day visit to India today during which she will meet government officials and business leaders to discuss opportunities for greater engagement.
While in India, the Assistant Secretary will meet government leaders to discuss trade and business ties, as well as a range of bilateral, regional, and global issues to deepen the US-India strategic partnership, sources said.
She will also meet business leaders and students of US-India economic relations and promote the US-India ties, the sources added. Ms Biswal’s visit comes in the backdrop of the US outpacing China on investment in India. She is expected the lend momentum to existing bilateral trade and strategic cooperation during her visit.
“The high-level engagements between our two countries since May of 2014 include six at the leader-level, including the Nuclear Security Summit, and we could well see more before the end of the administration,” Ms Biswal had said, ahead of Prime Minster Narendra Modi’s visit to Washington on March 31.
