SRINAGAR : After a brief respite night chill returned to Kashmir valley while Kargil and Leh freezes with below minus 10 degree temperature as weather again turned dry and cold.
A Met department spokesman said weather will remain dry and cold during the next 24 hours when minimum temperature will drop further.
Kargil, a border town in Ladakh region was coldest with minus 11 degree against minus 9.2 degree while at Leh it was minus 10 degree, two notches colder than yesterday. After brief respite, night chill returned in the Kashmir valley, where world famous ski resort of Gulmarg was coldest with minus 6.2 degree. However, it was two notches above normal.
Pahalgam, a health resort in south Kashmir also recorded considerable drop in the temperature. Against yesterday’s minus 3.8 degree, it was minus 5.6 degree, he said, adding it was four notches above normal.
Summer capital, Srinagar also recorded major drop in the minimum temperature though the sun was out. However, icy cold winds continued.
Met spokesman said against yesterdays 0.5 degree, the minimum temperature dropped top minus 2.3 degree, 0.3 degree below normal.
Qazigund also witnessed drop in the minimum temperature with minus 3.8 degree, Kokernag minus 0.7 degree and Kupwara minus 3.5 degree.
