Man killed, several injured in Pak firing at Tangdar

SRINAGAR, Feb 3: A man was killed while several others were injured after Pakistan troops resorted to firing in Tangdar sector along the Line of Control (LoC) this evening.
An official said that this evening  at around 6 pm, Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked ceasefire violation  along the LoC at Tadd sector Tangdar, targeting the forward posts of Army’s 2 JAT and 17 Bihar regiment.
A man identified as Mohammad Saleem, son of Ilim Deen was killed in the firing while several others were injured. Several residential houses were damaged in the Pakistani shelling causing panic the area. Police and administration have launched a massive rescue operation for civilians. The exchange of fire was going on till 7 p.m. However, the firing later stopped but panic continued as people in the area feared for their lives.
People near the LoC are vulnerable to Pakistani shelling in absence of underground bunkers. The bunkers built in the area some two decades ago were damaged in the earthquake of 2005 and never built again. People have time and again demanded construction of bunkers as the firing along the LoC is frequent since August last year after revocation of special status of Jammu and Kashmir by the Centre.
The firing in Tangdar sector is going on for last two days. Yesterday Pakistani troops manning Papa-1 post fired with small arms towards Indian post Vayou where 39 GR of army is posted. The fire started at 1200 hours.
One house and a cow shed were destroyed in the Pakistani firing and several cattle also perished in the cow shed.
The official said that Army gave befitting reply to Pakistani shelling inflicting heavy casualties on them.
In the meantime, Pakistani troops targeted army’s forward posts in Bagtore sector of Gurez this evening. The official said that Pakistani troops used small arms to target the Indian posts. They said that they fired from Losar and Pant posts. However, there was no damage.
The official said that Army targeted Pakistani posts and inflicted casualties on them.
This is for the second consecutive day that Pakistani troops have been targeting Army’s forward posts in Gurez. One soldier was injured in the firing and he was evacuated to Srinagar for treatment.
