NIA summons Qayoom, lawyers suspend work

Srinagar, Sept 4: National Investigation Agency (NIA) today summoned noted Kashmiri lawyer and president of Kashmir High Court Bar Association Mian Abdul Qayoom to its Delhi headquarters for questioning with regard to ongoing terror funding probe.
The NIA issued summon to Mian Qayoom, considered a top separatist figure, for appearance at its Delhi headquarters on 06/09/2017 (Wednesday) for questioning. The NIA delivered summon notice to his house here in uptown city. According to the summon, Qayoom will be posed “certain questions” relating to case  RC 10/2017/ NIA/DLI, 120B, 121, 121A of IPC and 134, 16, 17,18,20, 38, and 40 of UA(P) Act.
In reaction to the notice issued by NIA to the Bar president, the lawyers across the Valley suspended their work today. The Bar Association has decided to hold a general body meeting tomorrow at High Court where the issuance of notice to the Bar president will be discussed and future course of action will be chalked out, a statement issued here said.
“In that view of the matter the work in the High Court and subordinate courts shall remain suspended for the day tomorrow. In order to show their solidarity with the Bar president, all the District and Mufassil Bar Associations of the Valley have also decided to abstain from court work tomorrow,” the statement added.
