NIA court grants 10 days police remand of two accused

JAMMU, June 27: Special Judge NIA Sandeep Gandotra today granted 10 days NIA remand of two persons, who were arrested in connection with Pahalgam terror attack.
The two men – Parvaiz Ahmad Jothar from Batkote, Pahalgam and Bashir Ahmad Jothar of Hill Park, Pahalgam were arrested by NIA on Sunday in the first major breakthrough in the investigations into the attack that left 26 persons, mostly tourists, dead and 16 others injured on April 22.
According to the NIA, the arrested accused have disclosed the identities of three armed terrorists involved in the attack, and have also confirmed that they were Pakistani nationals affiliated to the banned terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
Today the accused persons were produced by AIO DySP Sudhanshu Rana of NIA Jammu before the court in proper custody seeking police custody for a period of 10 days. The AIO also produced the medical certificates of accused persons according to which they are medically fit.
Accused persons are told of their right to be defended by legal practitioner’s of their choice. They did not complaint against anything. However, LADC Anil Sharma and Deputy LADC Ashwani Kumar shall provide legal assistance to the accused persons.
After perusing the latest entries in the case diary and considering the submissions made by PP, the court observed, “the accused persons are prima facie involved in a case registered vide RC-02/2025/NIA/JMU for offences made punishable under Sections U/s 103, 109, 61 of BNS, 7/27 Arms Act and U/s 16, 18, 19 & 20 of UA (P) Act, 1967”.
“Since the investigation of the case is at the crucial stage, as such the accused persons are remanded to police custody for 10 days till 07.07.2025 with the direction to AIO to expedite the investigation. AIO is also directed to comply with all the provisions of BNSS regarding custody of accused and follow the guidelines of Supreme Court”, read the order.
