NIA charges LeT/TRF as legal entity for executing Pahalgam terror attack, traces conspiracy to Pak

JAMMU, Dec 15: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has named Pakistan-based dreaded terrorist Sajid Jatt as an accused in April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 persons including 25 tourists and a local were killed. Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) terrorist outfit and its proxy The Resistance Front have also been named in the charge sheet filed today by the investigating agency.

The 1597-page charge sheet was filed by the senior NIA officers who investigated Pahalgam terror attack after taking over the case before the NIA Special Court in Jammu.
The NIA through meticulous scientific probe spanning nearly eight months traced conspiracy in the case to Pakistan, which has been unabatedly sponsoring terrorism against India, an official statement issued by the investigating agency after filing the charge sheet, said.

Two accused persons Parvaz Ahmad Jothar, a resident of Batkote, Pahalgam and Bashir Ahmed Jothar R/o Hill Park, Pahalgam were arrested by the NIA on June 22, 2025 for harbouring terrorists and both of them have also been charge sheeted in the terror attack.
During interrogation, it added, the two arrested persons had disclosed identities of three armed terrorists involved in the attack and had also confirmed that they were Pakistani nationals affiliated to proscribed LeT terror outfit.
Pakistani handler Sajid Jatt has been named as an accused in the charge sheet along with three Pakistani terrorists who were eliminated by security forces during Operation Mahadev at Dachigam, Srinagar, in July 2025, weeks after the deadly terror attack at Pahalgam. The trio was identified as Faisal Jatt alias Suleman Shah, Habeeb Tahir alias Jibran and Hamza Afghani.
The Lashkar-e-Toiba and The Resistance Front and four terrorists including Sajid Jatt and the trio who were killed have been charged under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhit (BNS), 2023, Arms Act, 1959 and the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), 1967 in the charge sheet filed by the NIA.
The NIA has also invoked the penal section against the accused for waging war against the country.
The charge sheet details Pakistan’s conspiracy, roles of the accused and supporting evidence in the case. It has charged LeT/TRF as a legal entity for its role in planning, facilitating and executing the Pahalgam attack. The attack, which involved religion-based targeted killings by the Pak-sponsored terrorists, left 25 tourists and one local civilian killed.
After charge sheet was filed by the NIA, the Special NIA Court listed the matter for next crucial stage for arguments on charge/discharge on January 5, 2026.
The NIA has stated that further investigation is going on to establish full conspiracy of the terrorists and their support network behind Pahalgam terror attack.
After April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, the Indian Armed Forces carried out Operation Sindoor from May 7-10 deep inside Pakistan and PoJK targeting terror infrastructure and military installations in which large number of terrorists and their commanders were killed. The terror infrastructure in Pakistan and PoJK including training camps, headquarters of the outfits etc suffered huge damage. Several military installations were also destroyed.
