NHPC advises public in Kishtwar to stay away from Chenab River

KISHTWAR, June 26: In view of a scheduled silt flushing operation at Dulhasti Dam, NHPC has issued an advisory urging the public in Kishtwar and surrounding areas to stay away from the Chenab River on June 28.
The 17-hour operation, beginning at midnight and continuing till 5 PM, may lead to a sudden rise of 2 to 3 meters in the river’s water level. As a precaution, NHPC has appealed to residents not to venture near the river, engage in fishing, extract sand, or attempt to cross the river from unsafe points.
Locals have also been advised to ensure that cattle are kept away from the river banks during this time. Warning sirens will be sounded before the release of water, and safety instructions have been prominently displayed along the river.
Emphasizing public safety, NHPC stated that any loss due to negligence during the operation will not be its responsibility.
