JAMMU, Aug 1: All JK National Health Mission Employees Association (NHMEA) has urged the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to intervene and recommend a high-level inquiry into the alleged suicide of Shweta Singh, a 24-year-old final-year BDS student from Doda. She was found dead in her hostel room at Pacific Dental College & Hospital, Udaipur (Rajasthan) on July 24.
According to the Association, a suicide note recovered from the scene reportedly points to mental harassment by college faculty. Terming the incident as a case of institutional harassment and academic exploitation, NHMEA called for justice and demanded accountability from the concerned authorities.
In a letter to the LG, the Association has appealed for coordination with the Rajasthan Government to ensure a time-bound, impartial probe into the matter. It has also sought legal assistance for the bereaved family and urged the Centre to enforce stricter mental health safeguards across educational institutions, especially for students from sensitive regions like J\&K.
Faizan A Tramboo, senior vice president of NHMEA (Jammu Division), emphasized that justice in this case is vital to restore confidence among thousands of students pursuing higher education outside the Union Territory.
