JAMMU, Dec 5: The National Health Mission (NHM), Jammu and Kashmir, today concluded a two-day training programme for Medical Officers and healthcare workers under the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Deafness (NPPCD).
A statement said the training focused on early detection of hearing impairment, strengthening primary-level ENT care, and improving referral and reporting systems across health facilities.
It said the programme was held under the guidance of the Mission Director, NHM, Baseer ul Haq Chowdhary, who stressed the need for timely screening, proper referral, and community awareness to curb preventable hearing loss.
He underlined the rising burden of hearing-related issues in the region and reiterated the mission’s commitment to strengthening ENT services at PHC, CHC, and district hospitals.
Participants were trained on NPPCD objectives, screening protocols for newborns, school children, and communities, management of common ear ailments, and proper use of reporting formats.
Practical sessions included demonstrations on otoscopy, hearing screening tools, and referral documentation.
Resource persons from the ENT Clinic and Research Centre conducted technical sessions and demonstrated key diagnostic procedures.
The training also covered counselling methods, rehabilitation processes, and hearing aid guidelines under MoHFW norms.
A special segment highlighted preventive practices, including yoga techniques, and awareness on sudden hearing loss along with required screenings and investigations.
The programme ended with feedback from participants and a vote of thanks.
NHM J&K said it plans to continue similar capacity-building programmes across the Union Territory to enhance service delivery and promote early detection of hearing impairment, especially in rural and underserved areas.
