JAMMU, Feb 10: Employees under the National Health Mission (NHM) in Jammu are facing severe financial distress due to a two-month delay in salary payments, an issue they claim, has persisted for nearly two years.
All J&K NHM Employees Association, led by its president Rohit Seth, raised the matter in a press conference held in Gandhi Nagar, Jammu. The event was attended by Dr Nazir Hussain (district president, Kishtwar), Rajinder Sharma (advisor, NHM Association), Sachin Gupta, Vikas Kumar, and several other NHM employees.

Seth emphasized that the delay in salaries is leaving employees unable to meet essential expenses such as school fees, loan repayments, and daily household needs. “We urge the authorities to ensure timely payments, as seen in other states,” he said.
The Association appealed to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Chief Secretary, Health Commissioner, Finance Secretary, and MD NRHM to intervene. Employees stressed that while NHM workers in other states receive timely salaries, those in Jammu & Kashmir have faced persistent delays.
The Association also reiterated demands for the regularization of NHM employees, a 100% salary hike, the formulation of service byelaws, and leave benefits similar to those in Odisha and Tripura. They further sought financial assistance for retired NHM workers and a 50% job reservation in direct recruitment through JKSSB and JKPSC.
Employees posted in remote, snowbound, and border areas urged the Government to introduce a one-time transfer policy and fill vacant positions in health institutions.
Seth warned that if the issue remains unresolved, the Association will be forced to take strict measures, holding the authorities accountable. “We are dedicated to serving the people, but we also need financial stability,” he stressed.
