Nexus of revenue authorities, land mafia exposed; 5 arrested, records seized

JAMMU, Feb 29: Nagrota police exposed nexus of revenue authorities and land mafia with the arrest of five persons and seizure of revenue records.
As per police sources, in the much hyped case of tampering in revenue records, where UT land worth crores of rupees was transferred illegally in the names of locals by Revenue Authorities after hatching a criminal conspiracy with the land mafia in Jagti area of Nagrota, a joint team from Nagrota Police Station and Sidhra Police Post raided different locations of Jammu and arrested five accused who were wanted in a case registered under FIR Number 31/2020 under Sections 420, 467, 468 and 120-B of IPC, Section 3 of PPD Act and section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act,1988 of with Police Station Nagrota.
It is pertinent to mention that the UT land bearing khasra number 1101 on National Highway 44 of Jagti area valuing in crores was transferred illegally by Revenue Authorities after tampering revenue records in the names of some touts of land mafia.
A case under FIR Number 298/2015 under Section 447-A and Section 3 of PPD Act was also registered when initially land grabbers tried to encroach upon some portion of land.
A case under FIR Number 31/2020 was registered after DC Jammu cancelled the illegal mutation order made by the revenue officers/officials where in major chunk of UT land was transferred to land grabbers by changing nature/type of land.
Five persons were arrested so far, who were identified as Samant Singh, son of Sunit Singh of Karan Nagar District Jammu, Vishwa Nath and Subash Chander, both sons of Isher Dass of Jagti, Anchal Singh, son of Daya Singh of Khanpur, Nagrota and Brijdev Singh, son of Chamail Singh of Toll Post Nagrota.
Three vehicles bearing registration numbers JK02CE-3645, JK02BC-7531 and JK02AH-9292 in which the accused were trying to escape were also seized.
Police team also seized the concerned revenue papers and other records from the Niabat Nagrota.
More arrests and seizures are expected as many names have been surfaced.
Police teams led by SHO Nagrota Inspector Mohammad Shokat and assisted by Incharge Sidhra Police Post Inspector Zaheer Mushtaq and SI Ankuj Kumar made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO Nagrota Mohan Sharma, SP Rural Jammu Suram Singh and SSP Jammu Shridhar Patil.
