Newly elected team of HC Bar calls on CM, submits memorandum of demands

JAMMU, Jan 17: The newly elected team of J&K High Court Bar Association Jammu today called on Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and submitted memorandum of demands.
The team was comprised of President Nirmal Kotwal, Vice- President Baldev Singh, General Secretary Pardeep Majotra, Joint Secretary Anshu Mahajan and Treasurer Rahul Aggarwal.
The Bar demanded restoration of charges/fees on Vakalatnama to be charged and collected by the Bar Association for the welfare of members of the Association, restoration of powers of Registrars/Sub-Registrars back to Judicial Officers, multi-storey building in order to have all the Tribunals, Commissions, Registration Works, CAT etc under one roof, establishment of medical dispensary at District Court Complexes across Jammu province.
Regarding infrastructure development, the Bar demanded construction of 1st and 2nd floors of Lawyers’ Canteen at J&K High Court Complex Jammu, multi-storey parking in the District Court Complex Janipur, repair of roof of Atrium in District Courts and installation of ACs in the dome area after covering the open space, construction of additional Lawyers Chambers to accommodate members of the Bar, installation of water plant to provide drinking water to the Advocates and litigants in the court complex, 10 computers along with printers and software and digital library both for High Court as well as Subordinate Court.
The other demands included security for advocates and litigants, adjustment of young lawyers, allotment of land for setting up of Advocates Residential Colony, dedicated crèche facility at the court complex, insurance cover for lawyers and their families, stipend for needy new entrants up to five years of their practice minimum Rs 20,000 per month and financial protection to lawyers and their dependants in case of untimely death or incapacitation due to disease or accident.
Moreover, the Bar demanded that all the Acts which provide for appointments of Retired Judges/Judicial Officers as the Presiding Officers/Members of different Tribunals, Commissions or Forums should be properly amended so that competent advocates could also be appointed.
