According to the official order, schools located within the Srinagar municipal limits will function from 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM, while those outside municipal limits and in other districts of the Kashmir division will operate from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
The department has directed all concerned institutions to strictly adhere to the new timings, warning that any deviation will be “viewed seriously.”
Earlier, Education Minister Sakina Itoo said that students were experiencing discomfort and dizziness during morning assemblies held under the open sky.
“I have been informed by several parents that their children feel dizzy during the morning assembly. I have instructed the heads of departments to adjust the school timing,” she said.
She added that schools should ensure assemblies are conducted in shaded areas to protect students from direct sunlight.
Responding to concerns about academic disruptions in recent weeks, the minister noted that some schools were also affected earlier due to cross-border shelling. However, the immediate concern remains student health amid the heatwave.
On the issue of summer vacations, Itoo said the decision would be taken at an appropriate time, depending on how the weather progresses.
