SRINAGAR, May 19: National Conference (NC) president Dr Farooq Abdullah today reiterated the party’s firm commitment to preserving the unique and historical identity of Jammu and Kashmir, highlighting the need to strengthen unity and pluralism across the region.
Addressing various public delegations at the party headquarters, Nawa-e-Subha, Dr Abdullah underscored that the Omar Abdullah-led government remains dedicated to inclusive governance and safeguarding the region’s ethos. He reassured the visiting groups that their concerns-ranging from governance to public welfare-would be addressed with urgency.
Dr Abdullah stated that the Omar Government is committed to fulfilling every promise made in the party manifesto. “Our primary aim is to foster unity and ensure the people have a role in shaping policies. Every stakeholder is consulted before decisions are made, and the secretariat remains open for all to raise their voices,” he said.
Calling for solidarity among all communities, Dr Abdullah urged people to transcend religious and sectarian divides. “J&K cannot progress without collective harmony. We must rise above being Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Shia, or Sunni. Unity in diversity is our strength, and only through it we can overcome poverty, unemployment, and underdevelopment,” he stated.
He warned that disunity would only exacerbate existing challenges and hinder development. “If we remain divided, we cannot move forward. We must walk together toward a shared future,” he emphasized.
The event was attended by key party leaders, including general secretary Advocate Haji Ali Mohammad Sagar, additional general secretary Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamal, provincial president Showkat Ahmad Mir and former MLAs Justice (Retired) Hasnain Masoodi, Shameema Firdous, Salman Ali Sagar, and Ahsan Pardesi. Women’s wing provincial president Sabiya Qadri and additional state spokesperson Sara Hayat Shah were also present.
