Education is the strongest tool through which positive changes can be brought in social, economic and political system of a country. Most of the developed countries invest a lot in educational sector keeping in view the importance of education. Education is a dynamic concept and if educational institutions are kept in static state, it can stagnate the growth of the country.
The educational system has to keep on changing in order to meet the present and future needs of the students and of the country as a whole. If we want to raise the standard of living and provide jobs to the unemployed youth, we have to change the present static educational system so that the present and future problems of the students and of the country can be solved easily. The students of the J&K are facing the problem of unemployment. The literacy rate in J&K has tremendously increased and the rate of unemployment has also got raised to a great extent. So, from this fact, we can say that our educational system provides degrees to the students and makes them to read and write but the present educational system is not in a position to eradicate the problem of unemployment completely. The number of technical, vocational & professional courses provided by colleges and universities of J&K is very less. Because of this fact, majority of our students remain weak in the field of information technology. The majority of the colleges and universities of J&K lay emphasis on academic courses. The present time educational institutions in J&K encourage students to do rote learning and encourage them in cramming the concepts. Our educational institutions do not encourage our students to conduct research in colleges and universities.
If the degrees don’t help students to get jobs, it is the duty of the concerned authorities in the U.T. of J&K to bring changes in the educational system so that the degrees provided by educational institutions can help the students to earn bread and butter. The number of technical, vocational & professional courses must be increased in educational institutions of J&K. The habit of rote learning and cramming must be discouraged and students must be encouraged to understand the concepts, facts and topics properly and students in colleges & universities must be encouraged to conduct research for solving different problems which the U.T. of J&K is facing so that our Union Territory can excel in the field of growth & development. The different institutions & instrumentalities of the U.T. of J&K must work together for bringing changes in educational sector. The Govt. of J&K, JKEDI, J&K Bank, J&KBOSE & all the colleges & university of J&K must work together & frame policies so that the private sector can be made strong in the U.T. of J&K which will help the educated youth to get jobs. The problems faced by the educational system in the U.T. of J&K must be discussed in the legislative assembly (J&K Civil Secretariat). The allocation of funds for education must be increased in the budget of the legislative assembly. So, keeping in view the above mentioned facts into consideration, we can say that there is a need to bring changes in the educational system of U.T. of J&K to meet the present and future needs of the students of J&K.
