JAMMU, Dec 26: National Democratic Party Indian (NDPI) J&K President, Rajesh Gupta has urged upon the Lieutenant Governor, Girish Chandra Murmu to check the illegal nexus of Geology and Mining Department with mining mafia.
He said , unlike all other States and UTs of the country, the Geology and Mining Department of J&K is keeping the Indian Bureau of Mines in dark about the illegal mining, which otherwise has assumed alarming proportions because of nexus between the officials of the department and the mafia.
Gupta quoted data, copy of which he claimed was with NDPI, to say that no information about illegal mining of major and minor minerals was shared with the Indian Bureau of Mines during 2016-17 while during the year 2017-18, it was reported that 1485 such cases were reported in J&K.
