JAMMU July 27:- Safdar Hashmi’s famous play “Aurat” was performed today by Nav Durga Kala Manch (NDKM) today at its Performing Art Studio, here. The play was directed by Aaditya Bhanu.
Sardar Surinder Singh Shingari, ex municipal corporator presided over the function as a chief guest.
The play is all about the problems confronted by the women folk right from childhood up to death bed. Whether she is daughter, sister, mother or wife, it is only and only she who has to suffer throughout her life. In spite of her being literate or illiterate, the society rejects her right and treats her merely a living being who has to only work for the family.
The play starts with a 10 years old girl who wants to study and play as other kids do but her father didn’t allow her to continue her studies because he thinks that it is only wastage of money to educate a girl as the women folk is meant only for doing kitchen and other house hold related works.
Also, the play depicts the pathetic condition of the woman when she is married to a drunkard man, her exploitation for getting a job after being well educated, her struggle for getting admission in a college, subjected to eve teasing and so on.
In the climax, when being old she is unable to execute the work with proper pace, she is fired by the employer and then she decided to raise voice against it so that this doesn’t happen to an old lady in future.
In the end, the chief guest praised the efforts of the Manch for highlighting the problems of the women folk especially during present scenario where crime against the women folk is rising right from womb up to adulthood.
The artists who performed in the play included Supriya Chouhan, Tarun Sudershan Vasson, Atul Sharma, Sumit Sudan, Kamaljeet Singh, Bindiya Sharma, Dilshad Shazi and Reetu Manhas.
Make up was done by Reetu Manhas, Music was executed by Kannav Chopra while lights were handled by Sakshi Dogra who also did the presentation.
