JAMMU, Sept 26: The National Commission for Women (NCW) today organized a Mahila Jan Sunwai (Rashtriya Mahila Ayog-Apke Dwar) in Jammu to directly hear and address women’s grievances.
The program was led by Vijaya Rahatkar, Chairperson of NCW, and witnessed the participation of complainants from different areas who presented their issues before the Commission.
During the proceedings, several complaints were resolved on-the-spot, bringing immediate relief and guidance to the affected women.
The initiative reaffirmed the NCW’s commitment to provide accessible and responsive grievance redressal mechanisms for women.
Vijaya Rahatkar commended the Jammu and Kashmir Police for their cooperation and swift action in facilitating the event.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Jammu-Samba-Kathua (JSK) Range, Shiv Kumar, expressed gratitude to the NCW for selecting Jammu as the venue for this important outreach.
He said the initiative would help strengthen trust between citizens and law enforcement agencies on matters concerning women’s safety and dignity.
Following the Jan Sunwai, the NCW held a review meeting with senior police and district administration officers.
The session focused on strengthening existing measures for women’s safety and directed authorities to organize more awareness programs and seminars.
A PowerPoint presentation was given by DIG Jammu and the District Administration, highlighting safety facilities for women and data related to crime prevention and detection.
The proceedings were attended by Rakesh Minhas, Deputy Commissioner Jammu; Joginder Singh, SSP Jammu; Virender Manhas, SSP Samba; Sandip Bhat, Additional SP Udhampur; Rahul Charak, Additional SP Kathua; Zonal SSPs of Jammu, Samba, Kathua and Udhampur; along with SDPOs of the JSK Range and the Investigating Officers handling the listed complaints.
The program was seen as a meaningful step towards institutional responsiveness and promoting women’s security in the region.
