NCRB R R Verma is new NCRB DG

NEW DELHI, Jan 2:
Senior IPS officer R R Verma has taken over as the new chief of the National Crime Records Bureau, the national repository of data of crimes and criminals.
Verma, a 1978-batch officer of Bihar cadre, took over the charge yesterday after incumbent Shafi Alam retired from the post of Director General, NCRB, on December 31.
Till recently, Verma was serving as Special DG in central paramilitary CISF.
The NCRB is at the forefront of taking to full implementation and monitoring of the ambitious Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS), an e-project for bringing all police data on a single sharing platform.
The CCTNS aims to do away with the practice of redundant record-keeping and store the records of crimes, criminals and offences in a digitised format across all police stations of the country.
The NCRB functions under the administrative control of the Ministry of Home Affairs. (PTI)
