JAMMU, June 18: Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Jammu is celebrating 26th June as “International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit trafficking”.
In this context, series of awareness programmes have been planned and being conducted by the NCB Jammu in collaboration with State Police, District Administration and Government Psychiatric Hospital Jammu, today.
An awareness programme was organized at Central Jail, Kot Bhalwal, Jammu to observe International Day against Drug Abuse and illicit trafficking. During the programme, a Nukkad Natak on drug abuse was played by the artists of Nav Durga Kala Manch on the theme of Drugs Abuse and its ill-affects in the society. The programme was attended by about 100 inmates of Kot Bhalwal Jail along with other officials of the Jail.
In the opening address Manoj Kumar Zonal Director, NCB Zonal Unit Jammu shared his experience/views and emphasized the need of the issue since the problems of the Drug Abuse is effecting the mass section of the society especially youths. He further stressed that a lot of work is still required to be done by the Law Enforcement Agencies towards demand reduction. Superintendent of Jail Dinesh Sharma and Dr Rajinder Kumar, Medical Officer were also present on the occasion.
Dr Gurmeet Kour, Registrar, Government Hospital Jammu delivered lecture on drug abuse and drug addiction in the society and also answered the queries raised by the prisoners on the subject. The Nukkad Natak and stand up comedy was very well applauded by the Jail authorities and Jail inmates participated in the awareness campaign.
Similarly Narcotics Control Bureau Jammu has planned for launching such awareness campaigns at different places in Jammu and surrounding areas in the whole week to educate the people against drug abuse and its effects on social as well as in personal life.
