NCB busts inter-State drug racket in Jammu; 7.619 Kg Charas seized, pharma owner held

JAMMU, Mar 24: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) today busted an inter-State narcotics network by arresting two persons and seizing a huge quantity of charas from their possession in Jammu.
Acting on a specific inputs regarding smuggling of Charas, a Maruti Eeco vehicle was intercepted at Sidhra, resulting in the apprehension of one Sagar Singh of Nerghal, Ganote, Kanthi, Ramban, an NCB official said.
During questioning, he said, the arrested individual disclosed the involvement of his associate and cousin Rajesh Kumar of Chani Mansar, District Samba.
He said acting swiftly, a team of NCB laid a trap near UCO Bank, Digiana, Jammu, and arrested Rajesh Kumar from a passenger bus besides recovering 7.619 kilograms of charas from his possession.
“The seizure points towards a well-organised inter-state drug supply chain,” the ACB official said.
Meanwhile, in another related action, the NCB arrested one Rajeev Bhasin, a resident of Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, owner of Medisoft Pharma, in connection with a previously registered case.
The NCB official said the case pertains to a major seizure made on August 27, 2024, in which 221 bottles of codeine-based syrup, 3000 tablets of Alprazolam and 12,960 capsules of Tramadol were recovered.
He said the arrest is crucial in exposing the illegal distribution of pharmaceutical drugs and tracking the supply chain behind such activities. Meanwhile, further investigation in both cases is in progress, added the NCB official.
