KALAKOTE, May 8: Patron of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today regretted that National Conference led coalition has brought chaos and uncertainty in the State by propagating oppressive policies. He lamented that instead of adopting humanistic approach to address grievances of the common masses, the present dispensation has been brazenly mis-using State apparatus to gag genuine voice of the people.
“Jammu and Kashmir has been plunged into uncertainty and anarchy after formation of National Conference led Government”, Mufti said while addressing an impressive public meeting organized by Baji Muzaffar Shah at Kalakote today.
He said that the credibility of the Government has reached at its lowest ebb because this regime has lost faith of the people. “From the day one when this Government was formed, there is instability and uncertainty in the State”, Mr Sayeed said.
Emphasizing on the need of solving vexed Kashmir problem for the lasting peace in this region, he maintained that dialogue was the only way to solve all problems peacefully. “Political parties of the country have to realize that solution of Kashmir problem is must for the lasting peace in this region”, he said.
Referring to the historical steps taken by the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in 2003 during his visit to Kashmir, Mufti reminded that bold steps were taken at that time when forces of both the countries were in eyeball to eyeball position following the attack on the Parliament. He said that announced made by Atal Behari Vajpayee on April 18, 2003 at Srinagar was one of the bold steps because he had extended hands of friendship towards Pakistan at that time. He, however, expressed his concern over lack of progress in the peace process pioneered by his party and implemented during PDP-Congress regime. He hoped that new democratic elected Government in Pakistan would take peace process to logical conclusion.
While highlighting historical role played by PDP in reviving people’s faith in the democracy, he that 2002 Assembly elections was turning point in the history of the State. “After 1947 democracy was never allowed to flourish in Jammu and Kashmir but it was only after 2002 Assembly elections that people’s faith was restored in the democracy”, he said.
