SRINAGAR, July 10: The rank and file of the National Conference today paid glowing and heartfelt tribute to Madar-e-Meharban, Begum Akbar Jehan Abdullah, on her 25th death anniversary.
Party leaders remembered that Begum Akbar Jehan not only as the better half of Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah, but as a resolute torchbearer of resilience, who stood tall during some of the most trying periods in the region’s history.
“Her quiet strength, unwavering resolve, and boundless compassion were the spiritual spine that upheld the collective morale of the people especially during times of repression and political exile,” they said.
Describing her legacy as one that transcended titles, the leaders said, “She was a force to reckon with. At a time when basic human liberties were distant dreams, Madar-e-Meharban emerged as a voice of hope and healing.”
The leaders hailed her as a pioneer in social welfare, a nurturer of Naya Kashmir’s ideals and a symbol of women’s empowerment long before such ideas became part of mainstream discourse. From working tirelessly for the underprivileged to championing the rights of women and children, her contributions continue to weave the fabric of Kashmir’s socio-political consciousness, they emphasized.
Among those who paid rich tribute were party general secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar, treasurer Shammi Oberoi, Advisor to CM Nasir Aslam Wani, chief spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq, provincial presidents Showkat Ahmad Mir & Rattan Lal Gupta, Members of Parliament Mian Altaf Ahmad and Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi along with political advisors Mushtaq Guroo and Mudassar Shahmiri.
Also commemorating her legacy were senior leaders including Abdul Rahim Rather, Mohammad Shafi Uri, Mubarak Gul, Nazir Ahmad Khan Gurezi, Sakina Itoo, Shameema Firdous, Choudhary Mohammad Ramzaan and YNC provincial presidents Mir Mushtaq and Tejinder Singh Aman as well as leaders of party’s women wing, minority wing, media and social media wings.
