NC habitual of playing communal politics: Deputy CM

JAMMU, Sept 19: Making a scathing attack on opposition National Conference (NC), Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh today accused it of being habitual in indulging in communal politics.
Talking to reporters at the sidelights of a Party function at Women College Parade here today held in connection with  Beti Bachao-Beti Padao Abhiyan initiated by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, Dr Nirmal Singh said that to remain in power NC played the communal politics right from 1947 and this time it is again trying to play the same card.
He said J&K is a sensitive State and the political parties should refrain from raising such issues which will hurt the sentiments of the people. Maintaining that the ban on sale of beef in the State is from Maharaja’s time and Government is duty bound to implement it, he said there is nothing new in it.
Deputy CM said that coalition PDP-BJP will not bring any legislation regarding lifting of ban on beef sale in the State and it will fully deal with if the Bill in this regard is brought by the opposition parties.
Lambasting Pakistan, Dr Singh, said it does not understand the language of peace and settling of bilateral issues through dialogue so it is continuously indulging in unprovoked border shelling. Pakistan is sponsoring terrorism at its soil and it is a rouge State, he said, adding Indian forces are however giving a befitting reply to Pak misadventure and we are capable enough to deal with Pakistan.
Dr Singh also expressed optimism that the Service Tax on helicopter services to the Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrims will be revoked. He said he has taken up the issue with Finance Minister, Dr Haseeb Drabu and in principle he (Finance Minister) has agreed to revoke the decision. Now it is the matter of time when the order will be issued.
Stressing on bringing about a change in the social perception towards female child, Dr Nirmal Singh said that coordinated and convergent efforts are needed for improving the child sex ratio and ensuring survival and empowerment of the girl child.
Dr. Singh said that the Centre and State Governments are paying focused attention  on checking the alarming child sex ration in the State and in this regard the  State Government has launched  a special social assistance scheme ‘Ladli Beti’ in six selected districts of Jammu and Kashmir exhibiting low and  declining  child sex ratio wherein the Government will contribute Rs. 1000 per month towards the birth of every girl child with effect from April 1st, 2015 for the next 14 years. On reaching 21 years of age the girl would receive a sum of Rs. 6.5 lakh, he added.
He Informed that under this scheme a girl child born to parents with annual income from all sources less than Rs. 75000 per annum will be eligible for the benefits under the scheme.
The Deputy Chief Minister stressed that it is vital that “we all work in unison to bring about a change and make the society more acceptable towards a female child”‘. “Stressing on re-establishing our beliefs in our cultural ethos”, the Deputy Chief Minister said that “our family system needs to be strengthened for making perceptible positive changes in the society” .
He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has envisaged a nation where the girl child is protected and is not being discriminated and where the women is empowered .He called for strengthening these initiatives  and  working in unanimity for fulfilling this dream”.
Dr. Nirmal Singh also asked for sensitizing the society about the alarming declining sex ratio, adding that such programmes must be implemented on a mission mode. He exhorted that girls have created a niche for themselves in every field and it is important that they achieve success with confidence and courage.
