NC Govt failed to ensure equal development: Mufti

MAHORE (REASI), May 4: Patron of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today regretted that the present regime headed by Omar Abdullah has reversed the process of peace and balanced development in the State.
Addressing an impressive public meeting at Mahore this afternoon, Mufti reminded the gathering that during the PDP-Congress regime a comprehensive policy was devised for the overall development of backward areas and special attention was paid to the neglected areas like Mahore, Gulabgarh and Gool. He said that not only neglected areas were brought on the developmental maps but a sense of security was also restored among the inhabitants of such areas.
“Before 2002, there was total chaos and confusion in the State and the common masses were gripped with fear psychosis”, he reminded, adding, “those who were at the helm of the affairs before 2002 had deliberately created an atmosphere of uncertainty and fear only to accomplish their nefarious designs”.
Mufti reminded that PDP led Government had pioneered and implemented peace and reconciliatory policies which yielded very encouraging results all over the State.
Reiterating resolve of his party to establish a new system of justice and equality in the State, Mufti said that his party has scripted a new chapter of peace and development in Jammu and Kashmir and has changed political discourage of State through its conviction and commitment.
“Although we had just 16 members in the Assembly, our party had convinced successive Governments at Delhi, through our convictions, to initiate some bold Confidence Building Measures (CBMs) to restore lasting peace in this region”, he said.
The PDP-Congress coalition Government had given a new direction to governance in order to address all these diverse issues effectively with the result that successive Prime Ministers could come here and reach out to the people and understand their problems, he added.
Mr Sayeed said that PDP led coalition regime has laid a foundation of mutual trust and confidence among inhabitants of different regions and sub-regions of the State. “Our Government treated all regions equally but backward and ignored regions were given special attentions”, the PDP patron said and challenged his opponent to come with any evidence of discrimination with any regions or sub-regions during his regime.
Responding to the demands of the locals, he reminded that it was during the PDP-Congress regime long pending demand of the people of Mahore of construction Tuli-Bana road was fulfilled. “During our regime funds were sanctioned for completion of this road”, he said and added that new initiates were taken during that period to improve infrastructure in all sectors including health, education and road connectivity.
Yash Pal Sharma-MLC, Basharat Bukhari-MLA, Ved Mahajan, Daman Bhasin, Ch Hussain Ali Bafa, Hari Om, Mohammad Sarwar Mir, Mohammad Shafi, Partap Sharma, Bansi Lal, Abdul Rashid, Mushtaq Ahmed Malik and others also spoke on the occasion.
