RAJOURI, Jan 14: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former MLC, Vibodh Gupta, has strongly reacted to the recent remarks made by Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah regarding establishment of National Law University terming them unfortunate and disrespectful towards the people of Jammu province. He said that such statements clearly reflect how the NC Government has, over the years, deliberately widened the gap between Jammu and Kashmir and reduced border and hilly districts like Rajouri–Poonch to mere vote bank politics.
Vibodh Gupta addressing a meeting here, today said that the Chief Minister’s comment regarding the establishment of institutions like IITs and IIMs in Jammu exposes the anti-Jammu mindset of the National Conference (NC). “Such statements prove that the NC has consistently worked against the interests of the Jammu province including Rajouri-Poonch, Ramban, Kishtwar, Udhampur and others,” he asserted.
Highlighting the neglect of Rajouri–Poonch, Vibodh pointed out that despite electing seven MLAs from the NC led collation, the twin border districts continue to remain ignored by the Government.
Vibodh further stressed that Rajouri–Poonch is not only deserving but also an ideal location for the establishment of premier institution like the National Law University (NLU), citing its favourable climatic conditions and improving connectivity. He said that had the BJP been in power in the UT, the Law University would have been established in Rajouri–Poonch, in line with party’s core philosophy of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas aur Sabka Vishwas.
Vibodh also underlined the far-reaching impact of the Modi Government’s welfare-oriented policies in Rajouri-Poonch such as opening of Eklavya schools for the better education of Tribal students, lifting ban on inter-district recruitment, grant of ST status to Pahari people while keeping ST reservation to Gujaar-Bakerwals intact. In contrast, he said, the NC Government has failed to fulfil the aspirations of the people of the twin districts.
Senior BJP leader and former MC Chairman of Rajouri , Mohd Arif, BJP leaders Yogesh Sharma, Riaz Choudhary, Varun Chandan, Mamta Dutt and Radish Sharma also spoke on the occasion.
