Srinagar, Mar 31: National Conference demands immediate rehabilitation of those affected by the floods and the Government should prioritise the issues faced by the public which have arisen due to the incessant rains in the valley, senior party leaders said on Monday.
In a joint statement issued here, National Conference General Secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar and senior party leader Mian Altaf Ahmad have urged the State Government to take immediate steps for the rehabilitation of all those affected by the floods besides providing immediate monetary assistance to those who have lost their homes, in the recent floods.
“NC had demanded free loan for the businessmen so that they could have revived the business again. But the Central Government didn’t pay any heed to the recommendations made by our party and both these parties PDP and BJP are now adding salt to the injuries of the flood victims,” the leaders said adding “rather than helping the flood victims, both these parties imposed the elections on people.”
The senior party leaders said that PDP led coalition Government has done nothing other than mere sloganeering for the flood victims and before and after elections they are just banking on hallow slogans.
“On the ground level nothing concrete has been done by these parties, they indulge in mere lip service, which in anyways isn’t going to help the flood victims of the State. The negligence on part of the Government can be gauged from this fact that two days before, our senior leader and MLA Budgam Aga Ruhuallah had apprised the Government about possibility of landslides occurring in Budgam,” they said and continued “But instead of listening to his worries Government was busy in the PR exercise the result of which is that in Laden Budgam, 16 innocent lives were lost due to the negligence of the Government.”
“A major tragedy could have been averted had the Government paid ears to the worries of our MLA,” they said.
They said today the PDP leader Mufti Sayed is busy in photo session by deriving pleasure out of people’s miseries by conducting tours of Lalchowk with a full media glare but in the September floods, same Mufti without thinking about people of the state, flied to Delhi.
