NC deliberately delaying refugees’ settlement: Manjit

SAMBA, Aug 1: Former Minister and senior Congress leader Manjit Singh today criticized National Conference and bureaucracy for creating hurdles for the permanent settlement of the refugees of 1947, 1965 and 1975 camp and non Camp.
“It was the Congress Ministers who had forced its alliance in J&K to accept the proposal of permanent settlement of the refugees and the UPA Government had also prepared its mind to finally release the needed compensation to the displaced persons and refugees,” Manjit Singh said while addressing the party workers in the monthly meeting at Vijaypur.
Instead of helping out the Congress leadership, he alleged NC always created hurdles with the help of bureaucracy to halt settlement of the refugees.
“The package of settlement was delayed for nearly three years and it was not forwards to the UPA Government, when it was ruling in Centre,” he alleged, while saying that they only focused to other issues forgetting the demands and proposals of the Congress party.
He alleged that NC tried to delay the settlement issue which was forcefully picked up by the Congress leadership from time to time.
“Many a times, we had differences on the issue and yet the NC has turned its deaf ears towards the demands,” he added.
He said now the NDA Government has taken over in Centre and like NC it is also not willing to fulfill the promises made with the refugees.
“They had given slogans and got votes but forgot the refugees and displaced persons of Jammu division who have been suffering on the borders,” Manjit Singh alleged.
Highlighting the problems of common man, he alleged that the people in Samba district have been facing power crises, drinking waters shortage and inadequate supply of LPG cylinders and the administration has been sleeping over the matter.
