SRINAGAR, Oct 22: National Conference (NC) chief spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq today expressed confidence that his party would win all four Rajya Sabha seats in the upcoming elections, saying that voters opposing the NC would be indirectly helping the BJP.
Speaking to reporters here, he said, “You will get a good surprise in the Rajya Sabha elections. I am hopeful that all four seats will be won by the National Conference. This vote is such that if you are voting against the National Conference, it means you are helping the BJP,” he said.
On the upcoming assembly session, Sadiq said he had introduced a bill in the Assembly on September 29 seeking to restore the 1960 Land Grants Act, which he said was meant to protect the rights of poor people who have been living on leased land for decades. “This bill is for every poor person who has had land for 50, 60, or 70 years. Even schools and institutions that were built on leased land are part of this category. It is wrong to give this bill a different color,” Sadiq said, adding that the bill was not a “photo-op or a controversial move” but an attempt to reverse the 2022 amendment and restore the original law.
Addressing concerns over alliance unity, Sadiq said there was no rift within the coalition partners, including the National Conference, Congress, and other constituents of the INDIA bloc. “There will be discussions and disagreements in every alliance, but overall, we are strong. The NC Congress government will complete its five-year term and run well,” he said.
Reiterating his earlier statement, Sadiq concluded, “the people will witness a good surprise in the Rajya Sabha elections. All non-BJP parties will stand united, and the NC will emerge victorious on all four seats.”
