SRINAGAR, Dec 4: Hitting out hard at the BJP Union Minister’s comments over minorities living in the country, National Conference has demanded an unconditional apology from the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah.
In a joint statement issued by the National Conference general secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar and provincial president Nasir Aslam Wani, the party said the comments made by the Minister of State Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti are outrageous and offensive to the minorities of India in general and people of Kashmir in particular.
“Especially because elections are ongoing on in the State and BJP’s campaign in the State has been dotted with communal overtones and remarks of this nature and her comments are directly aimed at the people of Kashmir as well as the minorities living in the entire country,” the statement said.
The senior NC leaders demanded that the Prime Minister of India and as well as president of BJP Amit Shah should tender an unconditional apology and explain how a Minister in their Government can have such an ideology and still be promoted as a Minister. Sadhvi’s comments area a clear cut indication of what the foundations of the BJP ideology are and how inherently communal and majoritarian their outlook is, they added.
The NC leaders said that these are BJP’s electoral ploys of polarizing people as was done by the party in Uttar Pradesh and as it is trying to do in Jammu and Kashmir.
“As the party played in Uttar Pradesh under Amit Shah’s plan, BJP is trying its best to spark communal tensions within Jammu and Kashmir and they have made it clear that they want to bank on the polarization not only between the regions of Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh but also between the religious communities of the State,” the joint statement said.
The NC leaders reiterated that their party believes in the equality of all citizens of the State irrespective of their region, religion, their caste or their language and they would endeavor to preserve these ethos at all costs.
