Nayeem arrested, sent to jail

Srinagar, Feb 8: Police today arrested separatist leader Nayeem Ahmad Khan and he was remanded to judicial custody and sent to Central Jail Srinagar till February 11.
A contingent of police from Police Station Saddar today raided his house early in the morning and arrested him. Soon after his arrest he was handed over to Pattan Police.
Police produced him before the Sub-Judge Pattan and who remanded him to judicial custody. Khan was shifted to Central Jail Srinagar.
Police said here that the Pattan police in district Baramulla executed a non-bailable warrant issued by Sub-Judge, Pattan against the separatist leader Nayeem Khan.
Police said that a case FIR No: 5/2000 under Section 13 ULA was registered in Police Station Pattan against Khan. Police said that the Challan of the case was produced in the court of Sub-Judge Pattan in the year 2008. Since Khan didn’t appear in the case, court issued a non-bailable warrant against him.
Police said that the Court remanded him to judicial custody and on the directions of the court he was shifted to Central Jail, Srinagar.
It may be mentioned here that Jammu and Kashmir Government had recently accorded sanction to prosecute Khan under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 in another police case of 2011.
Khan was booked by police along with his associate in a case under FIR number 72/ 2011 under Section 147 RPC and 13 of the UA(P) Act. In the FIR, police had accused Khan and his associate of raising provocative slogans against the sovereignty of India on 16th September 2011 in Gol Market area of Karan Nagar in Srinagar.
Police vide letter number Legal/San/48/S/2012/352 had sought permission from the Home Department for launching legal proceedings against Khan.
