Natrang to stage ‘Bawa Jitto’ in National Theatre Festival

JAMMU, Jan 19: Rajasthan Sangeet Natak Akademi has invited Natrang to present it’s Internationally acclaimed Dogri play “Bawa Jitto” in National Theatre Festival to be held on January 22 at Jaipur.
This was disclosed by Director Natrang Balwant Thakur during a press briefing held at Natrang Studio Theatre.
He said 23 members team of Natrang will leave for Jaipur to perform the play “Bawa Jitto”, adding that since 1986, this play has played a major role in creating a cultural bridge between J&K with rest of the nation.
In last 26 years, the play “Bawa Jitto”, popularly known as the cultural magazine of Duggarland, has contributed immensely in glorifying the culture of this region at National and International level.
Scripted by Late Padamshree Prof Ram Nath Shastri and directed by Balwant Thakur the play unfolds the life sketch of Dogra folk hero Bawa Jitto who sacrificed his life for a right, he said, adding that this play created a new history for the theatre of this region and has been staged over hundred times in all most all the major cities of the country.
It was declared the best production of the year by the Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi in 1987 and till date Natrang by putting its all earnest efforts and resources has kept this production alive despite lack of support and patronage, Thakur informed.
